LOCK HAVEN – The Clinton County Arts Council is pleased to announce that Theresa Spitler will offer a pastel workshop on Saturday, September 6th from 9 to 12:30.  The workshop, open to beginners as well as practicing pastel artists, will be held at the Station Gallery in conjunction with our annual Harvest Days Celebration.

The fee for the workshop will be $30 for non-members and $25 for members.  You may pay that Saturday, but we would appreciate it if you could sign up ahead of time, on or before August 20th.

Artist, Theresa Crowley Spitler was born in Lock Haven and graduated from Lock Haven State with  a BS in Education and was a teacher in the Williamsport School District for 26 years.  She resides in Montoursville.  After retiring she pursued her love of making art.

Theresa works in pastel to create her paintings and explore form color and texture. She studied oil and pastel painting with the late artist Alex Kedzerski and has also attended workshops with noted pastel artists, Jeff Martin, Robert Carston, and Greg Bilochini.

She finds inspiration in the everyday objects that become the subjects of her still life paintings and often receives requests from her patrons to include their own personal mementos in a still life painting.  Her landscapes and seascapes are influenced by her travels and the beauty of her surroundings.

“For me, painting is a gift, not the talent or the ability, but the passion to make art, the awareness to appreciate it and the determination to keep creating.  With pastel, there are infinite ways to make strokes and I experiment using different surfaces.  The pure color and intensity is very exciting.  Pastel can be handled boldly or with a gentle touch. It is  satisfying to create the illusion of form and substance out of dust.”

Theresa is a member of various art organizations including the Central PA Pastel Society,   The Bald Eagle Art League, Clinton County Arts Council, and Lewisburg Arts Council.  She teaches pastel workshops at the Lycoming Art Students League and demonstrates pastel techniques for art organizations and schools throughout the area.

Theresa shows her work in juried exhibitions and has won awards for her pastel paintings.

Her art is in private and public collections and can be seen at the Open Door Gallery in Lewisburg, The Eagles Mere Art Gallery, The Valley Gallery in Jersey Shore and The Story of Hawaii Museum and Gallery in Maui, HI.
