Beech Creek Jr. Legion Bounces Back

leg-ba-logo2BLOOMSBURG — The Beech Creek Junior Legion baseball team (8-1) bounced back Monday with a 4-0 road win at Bloomsburg.

The victory came after Berwick handed the Junior Crickets a 1-0 loss in Beech Creek last Saturday.

The game at Bloom was scoreless into the fourth inning when the home team threatened with a walk and two singles but on the second single Beech Creek leftfielder Mitchell Smith hit his cut off man who threw home to catcher Wyatt Koch and got the runner attempting to score; Koch then threw the ball to third and nailed the runner sliding in to end the inning.

Beech Creek scored their first run in the top of the fifth when Brandon Miller led off with a single up the middle and then took second on a passed ball. Alex Garbrick followed with a line drive up the middle for his second single of the game, scoring Miller.

In the sixth inning Beech Creek starting pitcher Landon Breon walked the first batter at which time Garbrick entered the game in relief and he struck out the 6 batters he faced in innings 6 & 7.

In the top of the 7th for BC Connor Bauman led off with a single to center. Austyn Carson pinch hit and got on with an error on the second baseman, the runners moving to second and third. After a strike out, Miller walked to load the bases. Garbrick got an RBI when the second baseman mishandled his second ball of the inning. With the bases loaded Talon Falls got hit by a pitch to drive in the second run of the inning. At this point Bloomsburg changed pitchers and Koch got his second hit of the game, a single to drive in BC’s fourth and final run.

Final score: 4-0

Breon had five strike outs in 5 innings, giving up two hits.Garbrick finished with six strikeouts in 2 innings of relief.

Top Beech Creek hitters: Miller single; Garbrick, two singles, two RBIs; Falls, triple and RBI; Koch, two hits and RBIBrandon had a single; Smith a single and Connor Bauman, a single.

The team’s incredible came to a grinding stop Saturday afternoon.

Berwick came to Beech Creek and shut down the home team, the 1-0 loss for the Junior Crickets their first after eight straight one-sided wins to open the season.
Cole Reeder was the hard-luck loser as his team could only muster four hits.

The loss followed a 10-0 Saturday morning win over Line Mountain. Ethan Watkins was the starter and winner for Beech Creek.
