key-base-logoSOUTH WILLIAMSPORT—If the Keystone Little League Major team wants to win a District 12 title, they’ll have to do it the hard way.

Keystone fell in the winners’ bracket final by a 13-4 count to Montoursville on Monday; the defeat means Keystone must come back and win the losers’ bracket final Wednesday to earn a Fourth of July berth against 3-0 Montoursville in the championship game (and it would take two straight wins over Montour to claim the crown).

The Keystoners never did get untracked offensively against two Montoursville pitchers, Hunter Shearer and Logan Ott combining on a 6-hitter.

Montour meanwhile pummeled three Keystone pitchers for 13 runs on 13 hits. The big blow was an Ott second inning grand slam which opened a 5-0 lead for the Lycoming County team.

Meanwhile Keystone put up a run in the third and three more in the fifth to draw within 8-4, but Montoursville put up a 5-spot in the bottom of the fifth and cruised home.

Trey Gentzel was the lone Keystone player with multiple hits, two singles. Collin Bauman came off the bench with a 2-run single in the fifth. Other hits came from Hayden Heichel and Ross Glossner with doubles and Zane Probst a single.

Glossner started on the mound and was charged with the loss; Ryan Bennett and Probst followed.

Next up for Keystone is the losers’ bracket final at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Hepburn Field north of Williamsport; the opponent will be the winner of a Tuesday game between Williamsport and South Williamsport.

Wednesday’s survivor will meet Montour at 2 p.m. on Friday, the Fourth of July at Volunteer Stadium in South Williamsport.
