Keystone Bops East Lycoming

key-base-logoBEECH CREEK — Saturday afternoon conditions in Beech Creek had all the makings of a hitters’ day and the Keystone Little League Major League team definitely brought its bats.

The end result was 12-2 five-inning blitz of East Lycoming, the win sending Keystone into a Monday winners’ bracket showdown, the opponent Montoursville, the game to be played at the South Williamsport Little League field.

The game was tight in the early going, the only runs Keystone homeruns from Ross Glossner, one in the first and one in the third (giving him three homeruns in his last three at-bats, going back to his game-winner at Loyalsock earlier in the week).

The contest stayed 2-0 Keystone into the bottom of the fourth when the home team plated three more, highlighted by a 2-run double from Evan Conklin and a run-scoring single from Jake Sweitzer.

East Lyco closed to within three with back-to-back homeruns in the top of the fifth but Keystone would close out the game with a 7-run salvo in the bottom of the inning.

Hayden Heichel started the inning with a homerun and homeruns followed from Colton Bauman, Trey Gentzel and Rocco Stark. Ryan Bennett would end the game with an RBI single, his second of the inning and third overall.

Keystone totaled six homeruns among its 15 hits. Stark had a single in addition to his homerun as eight different players had hits.

Stark went the distance for the win, giving up five hits while striking out seven and walking two.

Montoursville advanced to the Monday game with a 10-1 win over Newberry. Game time Monday is 6 p.m. The winner will be off until the District 12 title game July 4 at Volunteer Stadium; the loser will play next Wednesday against a loser bracket final to be determined.
