MCELHATTAN – Besides a little mud from the hard rains over the weekend, the 5th Annual Eagle Trek was a tremendous success for runners and hikers.   Hikers traveled an option of two courses including four to ten different trails along the Keller’s Reservoir in McElhattan.  The day brought perfect weather with starting temperatures at 60 degrees which made an exceptional day for everyone.

Many hours of trail work seemed to have held up (despite the hard rains) for the nearly 260 hikers at Zindel Park.  “We had an overwhelming turnout of walk-ins and are so excited to be able to help out The Life Center of Clinton County this year,” stated organizer, Donna Mayes.  The six-mile winners include Owen Rinker at 54 minutes with second place going to Matthew Schubach at: 58 minutes and third place Kevin Sorgen: 60 minutes.

The 12-mile trail runners had their way as well with first place winner Scott Bair at 1:51; second place, Greg Lange at 2:02 and third place, Jerry Blasko at 2:06.

Patrick Cummings, 6 miler, stated, “This was my first run and I really enjoyed it and will go for the 12 miles next year.”  Kathleen Seasholtz, added, “we had an awesome time; can’t wait until next year.” And Gary Jones, a 12 miler, stated “thank you to the volunteers who make this possible; we get a chance to meet people and enjoy our area because of them.”

The Eagle Trek over the last five years has assisted seven different organizations and has donated over $22,000 to date.  Next year’s Eagle Trek will bring different organizers and potentially add a new course option for the different adventurist.  For more information and photos, go to  www.eagletrekpa.com.
