Keystone Central Issues Statement on Safety of Students

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Keystone Central School District Friday circulated a statement to the community in the wake of last week’s horrific shooting rampage at a high school in Florida. Under the name of the district’s acting superintendent Al Lonoconus, the statement asks for community help in preventing such an occurrence in the Clinton County school district.

His statement is reprinted in its entirety:

An Important Message to the Community from Superintendent, Dr. Alan Lonoconus:
Over the past week, Keystone Central School District faculty and staff have kept Parkland, Florida students, parents, staff, and community in our thoughts. In the wake of such senseless violence, it is a clear reminder that we and schools across our nation need to evaluate our safety procedures and be continually prepared to protect our students.

KCSD has implemented “See Something, Say Something.” All students, in all grades across our district are being encouraged to report any and all threatening actions, behaviors, and/or words in which students imply harm to themselves, our schools, or individuals. “See Something, Say Something” does not start and stop at school. This initiative includes bus rides, social media, or out in the community. Students are being asked to contact a trusted adult within the district and report any information they may have pertaining to any and all perceived threats of violence. All reports will be taken seriously and will be turned over to local law enforcement.

KCSD faculty and staff will be reviewing this information with our students and we need your help. Please talk to your children about the seriousness of making such threats. Remind your children to use social media responsibly and that any suggestion of school violence will not be tolerated at Keystone Central School District.

Our district is fully committed to the safety of our students and staff and your help and cooperation is greatly appreciated. By working together, we can give the best effort possible in protecting our schools.
