Let’s Try This One…

A week ago Clinton County was ticketed to stay in a slightly reconfigured 5th Congressional District. That was a week ago, that court-ordered map a product of state Republican legislative leaders in the wake of a suit claiming state legislative districts had been gerrymandered by elected Republicans to favor the GOP. But the state Supreme Court rejected that plan and on Monday unveiled its own map, complete with completely rearranged and renumbered legislative districts. And Clinton County very much will be affected by the court map, if the map can withstand pending court challenges.

Under the Democratic-controlled state Supreme Court map shown above, Clinton County would no longer be part of the old 5th district presently represented by Glenn Thompson of Howard Township. Instead Clinton would become part of the old 10th district (a new 12th under the new numbering system) which tilts towards northeastern Pennsylvania and is now represented by Tom Marino, like Thompson, a Republican. State College and the Penns Valley area of Centre County would also be relocated into the Marino district. Analysts say the congressional district dispute may or may not be settled in time for Pennsylvania’s primary election set for May 15.
