Shoop, Klucker claim tournament titles

LOCK HAVEN – Kyle Shoop (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs ) and Alex Klucker (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro) claimed individual titles to the lead the way for the Bald Eagles as the No. 23 Lock Haven University wrestling team closed the 2017-18 regular season by hosting the Mat-Town Open II Tournament.

In all, LHU sent 10 wrestlers to the mats who competed unattached in the regular season finale.

Shoop, ranked No. 27 in the latest NCAA coaches’ panel rankings, went 3-0 and claimed the 141-pound title. Klucker, who is listed at No. 31 in the NCAA’s latest RPI ranking, went 4-0 and won the title at 157.

Shoop racked up a pair of tech falls and ran his season total to 14, which marks the third-most ever by a LHU wrestler for a single-season. He also now has 11 vs. Division I opponents which is the most by any DI wrestler so far this season as of press time. Klucker recorded two tech falls and a pin.

Collin Glorioso (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) was second at 149.

LHU dominated the 157-pound bracket. To go along with Klucker’s win, Jonathan Ross (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) placed third and Sammy Hepler (Ashland, Pa./Tri-Valley) was fourth.

Ray Bernot (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) finished third at 197.

LHU will return to action at the 2018 Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Championships, scheduled for Saturday, March 3 at Edinboro University. Action at the EWL Championships is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and the championship finals are set for 6:15 p.m. at Edinboro.
