Probst, DeMartino Named Bullets Baseball Captains

Chuck Probst
GETTYSBURG – The Gettysburg College baseball team has named two student-athletes as captains for the 2018 season, head coach John Campo has announced.
Senior outfielder Chuck Probst (North Bend, Pa./Bucktail) and senior pitcher Brad DeMartino (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) will lead the Bullets on their quest to return to the Centennial Conference Playoffs.

In his second season as a starter last year, Probst was a force to be reckoned with while batting in the leadoff spot and starting all 41 games in center field for the Bullets. He led the team in batting average (.394), slugging percentage (.679), on base percentage (.469), hits (65), stolen bases (9) and total bases (112) on his way to receiving First Team All-Centennial Conference honors. His 65 hits included 10 doubles, eight triples and seven home runs while batting in 33 runs and scoring 40. Probst was also voted to the D3Baseball.com Preseason All-American team where he received honorable mention status.

DeMartino, who has been a key piece to the pitching rotation his entire career, returns to the Bullets in his senior year as the most experienced pitcher on the staff with 26 starts and 166 2/3 innings pitched. He received Second Team All-Conference honors last season, as he posted a 5-2 record over eight starts with 51 strikeouts, just 10 walks and a 2.55 ERA. For his career, DeMartino has posted a 13-7 record with a 3.24 ERA, 145 strikeouts, just 33 walks, four complete games, and one shutout over 26 starts.

Both Probst and DeMartino have been named NCAA Division III “Players to Watch for 2018” by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper in a poll conducted by Division III coaches.
The Bullets open the season on Sunday, March 4, when they visit Hood College in a non-conference affair starting at 12 p.m. After their 10 game spring break trip to Ft. Myers, Fla., Gettysburg opens up at home versus Penn State Mont Alto on March 20.
