LHU to Cap Dual Meet Season at Clarion

LOCK HAVEN – The No. 23 Lock Haven University wrestling team is headed to Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) rival Clarion University to cap the Bald Eagles 2017-18 dual season. The dual meet is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 11.

The Bald Eagles are eyeing their 12th win of the season and sit at 11-4 overall. LHU is 3-2 in EWL action. Clarion is 8-4 overall and 3-1 in EWL action. Clarion will travel to Bloomsburg University for a league dual tonight (Friday, Feb. 9). Lock Haven’s 11 wins already mark the most since the 2002-03 season.

Sunday’s dual will mark the 55th all-time meeting between Lock Haven and Clarion. The Bald Eagles hold a 30-22-2 all-time advantage. LHU has won three straight which includes a 27-12 win last season.

Countdown to 100: Ronnie Perry, LHU’s only senior, sits on 97 career wins entering the weekend. He will look to become just the 20th wrestler in school history to reach the 100 career win mark.

Single-season win list:

With 35 wins on the season, Chance Marsteller has cracked the single-season top-10 for wins. The single- season wins’ record is 43 (Brad Lloyd (1988-89)). A 36th win for Marsteller would move him into a tie for No. 7.

Shoop, Marsteller listed among the nation’s most dominant wrestlers:

Kyle Shoop (141) and Chance Marsteller (165) are still listed among the nation’s Division I leaders in tech falls. Shoop is ranked No. 3 with nine DI tech falls (40:54) and Marsteller is ranked No. 8 with seven DI tech falls (33:39).

Haines returns to the lineup:

Last Saturday vs. Cleveland State, redshirt-junior Thomas Haines returned to anchor the lineup at 285 after missing more than a month of action. The nationally-ranked heavyweight looked as if he hadn’t missed a beat in downing Collin Kelly, 6-0. Haines scored two takedowns and racked up nearly three minutes of riding time. On Sunday vs. No. 10 Cornell, Haines rolled past No. 22 Jeramy Sweany, 9-3 to cap a perfect 2-0 weekend.

National Rankings:

This week, Lock Haven checked in at No. 23 in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches’ Panel rankings. The Bald Eagles were ranked No. 20 (Tournament) and No. 25 (Dual) by InterMat. The trio of Ronnie Perry, Chance Marsteller and Thomas Haines remained ranked by InterMat.
