Tyrone Hits OT Buzzer Beater to Edge Wildcats, 70-69

TYRONE – Central Mountain went on the road for a non-conference game with  Tyrone this evening and the Golden Eagles kept having a back and forth battle with their guests and hit a game winning shot from outside the arc to capture a one-point victory over the Wildcats, 70-69.

CM had a narrow 16-12 lead at the end of ht first quarter and the gap was even more slim at halftime with the ‘Cats holding onto a 31-28 advantage.

Then Tyrone battled back to keep the game close, outscoring the Wildcats 15-13 in the third quarter but still trailing 44-43.

In the final 8 minutes of regulation, both teams kept stride with each other and the Golden Eagles edged Central Mountain 17-16 for a 60-all tie forcing overtime.

Overtime was no different with both teams answering back to each other’s attack. Central Mountain was hanging onto a very precarious 69-67 lead in the closing seconds when Tyrone’s Andrew Ferguson launched a buzzer-beater from 35 feet out that dropped in for the final 70-69 win.

Matt Storman led the Wildcats with 24 points and Isaiah McCann was right behind with 23 more. Jake Skrtich added 9 points and Collin Jones put up 8 points. Trevor Hanna had 3 points and J.T. Pentz had 2.

Central Mountain finished the game with 36 rebounds (19 offensive / 17 defensive), five blocks and 10 steals.

The loss takes Central Mountain to 7-4 overall and 5-1 in the PHAC.

Up next for the Wildcats will be on the road for a conference game with Jersey Shore, Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2017.
