Chuck Probst: A Standout Buck to a Standout Bullet

Chuck Probst had a stellar multi-sports career at Bucktail High School but has concentrated on only baseball at Gettysburg College and done quite well. The Bullet senior was recently honored with a pre-season All-American mention.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior outfielder Chuck Probst (North Bend, Pa./Bucktail) of the Gettysburg College baseball team has been named a D3baseball.com Preseason All-American, it was recently announced.

Probst, who captured honorable mention status, was also named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division III “Player to Watch in 2018” earlier this month. He is coming off a tremendous season as the Bullets’ starting centerfielder a year ago, when he landed first-team all-region honors from both the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com and was also a First Team All-Centennial Conference pick. Hitting out of the leadoff spot, Probst led the team in batting at .394 while also posting some of the top power numbers in the conference. He clubbed 10 doubles, eight triples, and seven home runs while setting a school record for total bases with 112. He also finished with 65 hits to go with 40 runs scored and 33 RBIs. Among the Centennial Conference leaders, he finished first in triples, second in hits, fifth in batting average, tied for fifth in runs, and tied for fifth in home runs. He was also fifth in Division III in triples per game (0.2) and tied for 24th in total bases. In addition, Probst led the team with nine stolen bases.

In one of his most memorable performances last season, Probst tied a Division III record with two grand slams in one game and tied a school record with eight RBIs in a win over Penn State York. For his career, Probst has batted .363 with 61 runs, 101 hits, 19 doubles, eight triples, seven home runs, and 51 RBIs over 76 games and 66 starts.

Gettysburg finished the season 22-17-2 and qualified for the Centennial Conference playoffs for the fourth time in five years. The team opens its 2018 campaign when it visits Hood College on March 4.
