Improving Lady ‘Cats fall to Midd-West, 46-32

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Lady Wildcat basketball team is still seeking their first ‘W’ for the 2017-18 season but went down swinging, losing to visiting Midd-West, 46-32. The loss takes Central Mountain to 0-10 overall, 0-4 in the PHAC.

In the early going, CM hung tough playing solid defense and making the most of their shots trailing 8-7 after one quarter of play. The Lady Mustangs began to inch away from the hosts in the second quarter to earn a 14-8 effort giving Midd-West a 22-15 lead at the break.

The Lady ‘Cats kept pace with Midd-West in the third quarter, with the Lady Mustangs edging CM, 13-11, giving Midd-West a 35-26 lead heading into the final period. In the fourth quarter, Central Mountain’s aggressive defensive play took a toll offering Midd-West many opportunities at the penalty strip which they used to outpace the hosts 11-6 in the final 8 minutes to earn the 46-32 win.

“It was a much improved effort tonight, A great defensive game for us all around,” said CM head coach, Terrance Green, “We followed our game plan defensively, the fouls hurt us there in the end,” added Green.

“Offensively, our shots were dropping tonight but we fizzled out in the end,” commented Green, “We shot much better and are improving. Our record doesn’t reflect it but we are improving.”

Marissa Moyer led CM with 13 points and Madyson Smith added 6 points. Taylor Fletcher and Madison Courter each had 4 points on the night with Talyn Fredericks adding 2 points and Quinlynn McCann got in the book with 1 point from the penalty stripe.

Next up for Central Mountain will host Shamokin on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018. The JV game will be at 3 p.m. with the varsity game to follow at 4:30 p.m.
