Wildcats Earn First Place for Day 1

Balanced Team Effort with 10 Wrestlers Still in Action

LANCASTER – It was a topsy-turvy second round for the Wildcats in the 2017 Conestoga Valley Holiday Wrestling Classic. Once again there were bonus points aplenty. Enough bonus points to propel Central Mountain into first place in the team standings.

Central Mountain leading the way with 119.0 points with 5 wrestlers in the semi-finals and 5 more in the consolation bracket. Central Dauphin is right behind with 113.5 and 4 in the championship semifinals and 4 more in the wrestle backs. Northern York is in third place with 5 in the semis and 3 three battling back in the lower bracket.

At 113, Johnny Shreffler picked up a fall over Northern York’s Evan Chapman in 4:36 in his quarterfinal match and will face No. 1 seed Liam Logue from Father Judge in the semi-finals.

Seth Andrus earned a 5-2 decision over Chris Matthews of Exeter in their 132 pound quarterfinal match. Andrus, the No. 2 seed, will face Mason Myers of Central Yourk in the semifinals tomorrow morning.

Asher Corl picked up a 10-4 decision over Owen J. Robert’s, Rickey McCutcheon to advance to the semi-final round at 160 pounds. Corl Bay Blaschak of Northern York in the semi-finals.

Tanner Weaver kept up his march at 170 pounds by decking Josh McNamara of Conestoga Valley in 1:38 to advance for a morning meeting with No. 2 seed, Steven Newell of Dallas for their semi-final match.

Mahlik Houtz, No. 2 seed at 220, worked a 3-0 decision over P-O’s Josh Hubler in the quarterfinals and will face Huntingdon Landon Fisher in the semi-finals.

Still battling for the goal of a third place finish in the consolation rounds are: Dalton Bechdel (120), Cody Coleman (138), Logan Long (145), Austin Confer (182) and Tanner Riggle (195). Bechdel, Coleman (2), Long, picked up falls in the lower bracket while Riggle earned a major decision in his consolation match. Confer has battled for two pins and a major decision since dropping down to the consolation bracket.

Action will continue at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the finals slated for 2:30 p.m.
