Lady ‘Cats Battle but Fall to Mifflinburg, 59-32

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – It was another loss for the Lady Wildcats but there were definite signs of improvement in their 59-32 loss to Mifflinburg. Central Mountain rallied in the third quarter, though they couldn’t over come the margin they yielded earlier in the game.

Mifflinburg was also slow in getting their offense in gear but once they did, they held a 13-7 advantage after one period. The visiting Lady Wildcats extended that lead in the second quarter 15-6 for a 28-13 lead at the half.

Finally, the host Lady ‘Cats settled in and outscored Mifflinburg 16-14 in the third quarter fueled by a 6-of-8 effort at the foul line, taking advantage of improved defensive play that forced the visiting Lady ‘Cats to commit turnovers.

Mifflinburg took control of the fourth quarter and dominated CM 17-3 for the 59-32 win. Central Mountain continued to play aggressively but their scoring efficiency dropped off down the stretch.

“That was our best complete game thus far, ” said CM head coach Terrance Green, “For a minute-thirty, we held them without a possession. That’s an improvement.

“I was really proud of our defense tonight,” Green explained, “I know we had some lapse in the second half, but our defense, overall is getting there. Offensively, we’re getting there and good defense will lead to better offense,” he added.

Marissa Moyer and Madison Courter led the scoring for Central Mountain with 8 points each followed by Taylor Fletcher with 6 and Morgan Wetzel with 5. Summer Flanagan had 3 points while Talyn Fredericks and Quinlynn McCann each had a free throw tho their credit.

Central Mountain now 0-4 on the season will next host Selinsgrove on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017.
