Wildcats in the Hunt at King of Mountain
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – After the first day of wrestling at the annual King of the Mountain wrestling tournament the host Wildcats find themselves very much in the hunt for individual and team accomplishments.
Team scores at the end of Friday’s wrestling showed Chestnut Ridge on top with 70.5 points and five in Saturday morning’s quarterfinals. Seneca Valley is right behind with 70 points and six in the round of eight. Philipsburg, NJ is third with 66.5 points and six wrestlers still in championship contention. Central Mountain is next in the 32-team field with 66 points and leads the tourney with eight wrestlers into the quarterfinals.
Wildcat quarterfinalists are Johnny Shreffler at 113 pounds, Seth Andrus at 132, Logan Long at 145, Asher Corl at 160, Tanner Weaver at 170, Tanner Riggle at 195, Mahlik Houtz at 220 and Jake Edwards at 285.
Three more Central Mountain wrestlers will be in the third round of consolations Saturday morning: Dalton Bechdel at 120 pounds, Cody Coleman at 138 and Austin Confer at 182.
The Wildcats finished second a year ago as Exeter took the crown.
Other mid-state teams and their scores: Mifflin County in 5th place with 62.5 points, Bald Eagle Area 14th with 47 points and Bellefonte 18th with 39 points.
