Joan Althea (Bothwell Hayfield) Ramsey – Obituary

Joan Althea (Bothwell Hayfield) Ramsey, 87, of Leesburg, Florida passed peacefully of natural causes on Saturday morning, November 18, 2017, at home with her family.

She was born October 21, 1930, in Staten Island, NY, the daughter of the late Thomas A. Bothwell and Ethel Electa (Kreidler) Bothwell. Joan was a graduate of Curtis High School on Staten Island, NY.

On March 28, 1987, she married Herbert P. Ramsey in Lock Haven, PA. He survives.

She was a member of St. James Episcopal church of Leesburg, Florida. Prior to a move to Florida in 2000, Joan lived in Lock Haven, PA for 38 years. She served on the Vestry of St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lock Haven, was President of the ECW Diocese of Central Pennsylvania, was a Millbrook Playhouse Board member and Delta Zeta Sorority advisor at LHSC. Joan retired from an administrative position at Lock Haven University. She had a passion for entertaining and organizing and was active in many fundraisers over the years including for Millbrook Playhouse, the Clinton County Women’s Center and the Ross Library.

In addition to her husband of 30 years, she is survived by sons Jeffrey R. (Jean) Hayfield; George T. Hayfield; daughter Kathryn A. (Jay Stearns) Hayfield; son Thomas B. Hayfield; Two grandchildren, Jeremy D. (Alice) Frye and Jenna M. Hayfield. Her extended family includes stepdaughters Carol (Roger) Passick; Polly Chatterton; Dee (Dan) Liegey; Sandy (Art) Baker and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents. she was preceded in death by husband George H. Hayfield in 1980; brother Thomas A. Bothwell and Stepdaughter Lisa Robbins.

Joan will always be remembered by her friends and family for her great zest for life, a vibrant personality, a flair for fashion, a marvelous welcoming smile and for living by the motto “LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE!”

A Holy Eucharist in celebration of her life was held on Friday, November 24, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, Florida.
