LHU Men Edged in Season-Opener by Va. Union 72-69

Hinton Nets 35 for Bald Eagles

SHIPPENSBURG – Amir Hinton (Philadelphia/Abington) led the way for the Bald Eagles, but his stellar individual effort wasn’t enough to lead the Lock Haven University men’s basketball (0-1) as LHU dropped its 2017-18 season-opener on Friday to regionally-ranked Virginia Union (1-0).

For Lock Haven, it marked the first of two games at the Wolf’s Bus Lines Classic, hosted by Shippensburg. Saturday LHU meets Shaw at 3 p.m.

Hinton, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s (PSAC) leading scorer and Rookie of the Year last year, was 11 of 21 from the floor. He knocked down four 3-pointers and added a game-high eight rebounds.

Tarojae Brake (Coatesville, Pa./Octorara) added 12 points and Ra’eese Hunt (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) chipped in with 11.

Hinton also had five steals in all-around solid game.

Newcomer Marques Jackson (Philadelphia/Monsignor Bonner) looked solid and finished with six rebounds.

LHU trailed by two at the break, 37-35 and Virginia Union led by as many as 10 midway through the second half, but the Bald Eagles fought back. In the end, Lock Haven’s comeback bid came up just short.
