William H. Peter – Obituary

William H. Peter, 90, of McElhattan passed away peacefully Monday, November 6, 2017.

Born on March 26, 1927 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Frank W. and Mabel Matter Peter.

William served in the United States Army during WWII having transported the Coronel around Japan as well as monitoring polling places during the first National Election.

On November 23, 1962 he married the former Elsie E. Casper who preceded him in death on September 18, 2017.

William was an avid life-long farmer and was employed throughout that time in various occupations including Piper Aircraft for 25 years. Upon the closing of Piper he was a self-employed truck driver.

He was a member of the McElhattan United Methodist Church where he was involved in various activities.

For 30 years William served on the Wayne Township Planning Commission, having served as Chairman for the Board.

William enjoyed hunting, reading, and farming as well as camping and square dancing.

Surviving are four children: Linda Lee Laubscher of Swissdale, Franklin W. (Charlene) Peter of McElhattan, Cynthia Renee Chitwood McClain of Lamar, and Thomas W. (Patricia) Chitwood of McElhattan; a sister, Bessie McHenry of Avis; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two children, infant son, Dale H. Peter and son, James William Peter; his twin sister, Florence Miller; a brother, Samuel Peter; and two grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 12 Noon at McElhattan United Methodist Church, McElhattan with Rev. David McElwee officiating.

Friends and family will be received at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
