Montgomery Defeats Bucks, 35-8

Bucktail Gets Set for D4 Playoffs

By Jim Morgan

bucks-footballFARWELL – It was not the outcome Bucktail fans were hoping for in the Bucks’ final regular season game at Dwyer Memorial Field Friday night. The Bucks (4-6) were very flat on offense as the Montgomery Red Raiders (5-5) rolled over the Bucks 35-8.

Montgomery just ran all over the Bucks.  Bucktail received the opening kick-off  as the offense showed some life. A big third and long was picked up on a quarterback Richard Perry to Logan Long pass as he took the catch and got to the Montgomery 18 yard line.

That would be the most excitement for the Bucks until the end of the game. Montgomery just blitzed the Bucks and sacked Perry twice for big loses. Tanner Riggle was finding it very hard to find holes in the Red Raiders defense. Bucktail would turn it over on downs.

Montgomery’s second play from scrimmage was a 75 yard touchdown being called back on a penalty. But the Red Raiders would just take that drive and finish on a 5 yard touchdown. This would be the first of seven touchdown runs as all the extra points were good; making it 35-0 with 10:00 minutes left in the third quarter.

With the mercy rule in effect, the Bucks got the ball on their own 18 yard line with about 2 minutes left in the game. Bucktail would put their final drive on and finish on a 32 yard touchdown pass from Perry to Long with 3 seconds left. The two point conversion was good as Kenny Winkelman carried it up the middle.

The time and day will be determined on Sunday for a District 4 Class A play-off game.
