Fatal Morning Accident near Lamar 

LAMAR – A Mifflin County man was killed at daybreak Friday on Route 64 when his car ran into the rear of a vehicle stopped to turn off the highway. State police identified the victim as Sterling A. Hardy, 21, of Belleville. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clinton County Coroner’s office.

Investigating officer Christopher Soo said the driver of a second vehicle, identified as John Zook of Lewisburg, was stopped in the south bound lane of Route 64, waiting to turn left into Nittany Wood Crafters. The state police report said the Hardy vehicle came from behind and rear-ended a trailer attached to the rear of the Zook truck. Hardy died from blunt force trauma; police said he was not wearing a seat belt.

Zook was not injured, police said. He was wearing a seat belt. The police report said vehicle speed was a factor in the 6:50 a.m. accident. The Nittany Valley Fire Department and PennDOT assisted at the scene.
