Driver in Head-On Crash Takes Own Life

LOCK HAVEN – An area man identified as the driver in a high speed police chase on Sept. 19 has taken his own life.

Clinton County Coroner Zach Hanna has confirmed that David A. Tuttle II, 43, was pronounced dead Wednesday morning in his Spong Hollow home, the death listed as a suicide.

Authorities said it was Tuttle who led Lock Haven police on a high-speed chase through Lock Haven, Flemington and Bald Eagle Township. The chase ended about 4 a.m. on Sept. 19 when, police said, Tuttle drove his vehicle from the Laurel Run Road onto Route 150 and into the path of a second vehicle. Tuttle, the two passengers in his car and the driver of the second car were all injured.

Tuttle was taken to Lock Haven Hospital for treatment and upon his release last Thursday was arraigned before District Judge Joseph Sanders and charged with aggravated assault while driving under the influence and multiple other charges, including possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $50,000 and Tuttle, in a wheel chair, was allowed to return to his home with GPS monitoring.

Survivors include his parents and two sons. A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. at the Dean K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home in Mill Hall.
