Aramark Provides Healthy Treats to YMCA Childcare Program

LOCK HAVEN – Aramark, the on-campus food service at Lock Haven University, went off campus Thursday to treat the preschool and toddler age group at the Lock Haven YMCA Childcare program.

Y Childcare participants from 18 months to five years of age received a variety of mid-morning healthy snacks, from strawberries to yogurt. The visit was part of the annual Aramark Building Community Day. Jason Walker, the company’s production manager at LHU, said it was a way to give back to the community. Walker, president of the Clinton County United Way board, noted that the YMCA is a participating United Way agency, one of 16 in the county. Walker said the Y visit was in conjunction with Aramark’s global volunteer philanthropic program.

Walker was accompanied and assisted by two LHU Aramark employees, registered dietitian Michelle Richard and catering manager Amy Bechdel. Locally, in addition to Lock Haven University, Aramark partners with Clinton County at the Correctional Facility as well as UPMC Susquehanna and Lock Haven Hospital.

The YMCA Childcare program began in 2001, presently serving 56 families. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Child Care director Beth Bartlett said the program employs 16 full and part-time staff. She noted there are many students from LHU who are employed and use the childcare for observation hours.
