CM Boys Soccer Ties ‘Shore 1-1

cm-soccerBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP –The boys’ soccer teams from Central Mountain and Jersey Shore waged a tight one Tuesday night and after regulation and two overtime periods settled for a 1-1 tie at Malinak Stadium.

Central Mountain played a strong first half and scored its only goal when senior Matt Storeman stuck a penalty kick into the left corner of the net with 24 minutes remaining. Jersey Shore had one solid scoring opportunity in the half but Wildcat goal keep Nick Andrus made a diving save to prevent a score.

The Bulldogs put on more pressure in the second half and finally scored off a corner kick with just over five minutes remaining when Alex Trunzo, in traffic in front of the net, was able to boot the ball home. Moments later ‘Shore thought it scored the go-ahead goal but it was waved off on an off-side call from the officials. Bulldog coach Doug Moore argued the call and was ultimately red-carded as regulation ended and had to leave the field for the overtime.

Neither team could convert as the two 10-minute overtimes were played. Central Mountain had the best opportunity but Bulldog keeper Calvin Lesser made a diving stop on Storeman midway through the first overtime period.

The Wildcats finished with 13 shots on goal and one corner kick while ‘Shore had seven shots on goal and three corner kicks.

With the tie Central Mountain moves to 3-2-1 on the season with an away game set for Lewisburg Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The Wildcats will return home Tuesday, Sept. 26 for a 7 p.m. match with Hollidaysburg.
