Big Black Knights Down Bucks, 47-20

By Jim Morgan

FARWELL – Everyone at Bucktail (1-1) looked across the field and saw Towanda having 59 players in uniform for football. Those made the trip to Towanda last year remember how hard the Black Knights phsysically handled the Bucks. This year the attitude of Bucktail football is feeling different on the field.

Towanda (2-0) won Friday’s game by a score of 47-20. Even so, these 16 Bucktail players stood up to the Black Knights and played to the end by scoring two touchdowns in the final quarter, this after Towanda putting the game into the mercy rule in the third quarter when the score was 41-6.

Towanda opened the game up with a 37 yard touchdown off a hook and ladder play. Bucktail would answer right back on a 20 yard touchdown pass from Richard Perry to Logan Long as the 2 Pt. conversion was no good making it 7-6 Towanda. Towanda would take the next possession right down the field for a 14-6 score.

With the score 20-6 in the second quarter as Towanda looked like they are about blow this game open. Cody Hand would come up with a interception at the 5:15 mark. Towanda would score before halftime making it 27-6.

Towanda came right out in their next two possessions and scoring, making it 41-6 as the game is into the mercy rule. In the fourth quarter Bucktail would still have that fight in them as Perry hit Long on a crossing route in the end zone for a 41-12 score. Bucktail would score with 6:8 seconds left as Perry ran it in from 20 yards out. Perry would hit Long for the two point conversion making it 47-20.

Coaches could not be happier than ever on the effort that the Bucks showed on the field. It can only give the Bucks more confidence into the games ahead. Next up is a trip to Canton (0-2) Friday, Sept. 8. Canton lost to Wyalusing Valley by a 20-12 score on Friday.
