Bail Set at $50,000 for Renovo Area Teenager

FLEMINGTON — A Renovo area teenager remains in the Clinton County Correctional Facility, monetary bail set at $50,000 after his arrest Wednesday night on a charge of terroristic threats.

District Judge Joseph Sanders set the bail Thursday morning at a preliminary arraignment for Shawn F. Lovett, 19, of the Renovo Road, Noyes Township. He had been taken into custody Wednesday night in connection with a Keystone Central School District report earlier in the day about “disturbing messages” posted on YouTube.

His arrest was based on a state police investigation which determined that “the actor made several YouTube videos about taking a gun to a school, namely Renovo Elementary School.”

The Thursday Lovette arraignment was cut short when the defendant was being questioned by the court about establishing bail, including standard questioning about mental illness. Lovette, who was without an attorney, made mention of an incident in April when he said he went through a window. Lovette then began to talk of his constitutional rights and the questioning came to an end and the court set bail at $50,000. Therecord-online subsequently learned that Lovette had an April stay at The Meadows, a behavioral health facility near Centre Hall.

A first hearing in Clinton County Court was set for Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 8:30 a.m.

The incident had come to light earlier Wednesday when school district superintendent Kelly Hastings posted a message of an individual in the Renovo area “who…posted some disturbing messages.” She said while there was not a direct threat to schools, “the individual does make general statements about children and his desire to do them harm.” She said state police and Clinton County District Attorney Dave Strouse were notified. At about 10:40 Wednesday night Lovette was taken into custody by state police. Keystone Central and Renovo police had also been involved in the case.
