Bucktail Opens with 12-0 Win over St. Joseph’s

bucks-footballSTATE COLLEGE — The Bucktail Bucks picked up their first football win since the 2015 season, turning away St. Joseph’s Academy by a 12-0 score at State College Memorial Field Friday night.

It was a hard fight between both as Bucktail came out on top 12-0 for its first victory of the season. Bucktail’s new feature offense highlighted all three running backs Blake Cannon, Tanner Riggle and Gage Sutliff as the three of them combined for 217 rushing yards, led by the freshman Sutliff with 123 yards on 14 carries.

Quarterback Richard Perry also had a good game as he was 3 for 5 for 46 yards. There was no score until the nine minute mark of the second quarter as Sutliff carried it in for his first varsity score from 5 yards out as the Bucks led 6-0.

That score would hold up until the fourth quarter as Sutliff scored from 37 yards out with 3:02 left. Both two points conversion attempts would be no good but Bucktail had a 12-0 lead.

The Bucktail defense kept St. Joe’s in check the whole night, Sutliff shining there as well. Cody Hand was having a big night on the defensive side as his name was called on a lot of tackles.

Bucktail will be back in action next Friday night at Dwyer Memorial Field, hosting Towanda at 7 p.m.
