LAMAR TOWNSHIP — The old Lamar Township Elementary School, midway between Salona and Rote, will soon be on the market. The Keystone Central School Board earlier this year agreed to sell the property along Long Run Road as part of cost-savings within the district. The school closed at the end of the 2011-12 school year, its students transferred to Mill Hall Elementary.
The building most recently has been used for storage. The district has selected local realtor Beth Riccardo to handle the sale and the Girio Agency of Williamsport to do a required appraisal. The last school district sale of a closed building was the former Sugar Valley High School in Loganton, sold for $150,000 in 2013. That site has been converted to a grocery store and a donut shop and is now back on the tax rolls.
