Keystone Intermediate All-Stars fall 5-1 to New Jersey

COMMACK, NY – It wasn’t the opening round outcome the Keystone Intermediate 50/70 All-Stars were hoping for. Their opponent, Freehold, NJ kept the the Keystone bats silent and kept chipping away adding to their lead for a 5-1 win over the Pennsylvania champions.

Freehold plated single runs in the first, third and fifth inning and tacked on 2 more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for good measure.

The only only score for Keystone came off a solo homer by Cayde McCloskey when he led off the top of the sixth inning. Kaden Falls and Kayden Friese each had a base hit for Keystone.

On the mound, Keystone used 5 pitchers in attempting to silence the NJ bats and keep fresh are for the rest of the tournament. Brady Bendik got the start going 2 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits, striking out 2 batters. Falls came on next for 2 full innings of work giving up 1 hit and striking out 3. MCloskey came in for one out yield one hit and earning one strikeout. Aiden major also gave up one hit and worked a ‘K’ for Keystone in 2/3 of an inning. Ryan Thompson cam on for the final two outs allowing 1 hit and recording one strikeout.

Keystone will next see action against the loser of the host team, Commack North LL vs the Connecticut state champion, Coginchaug LL tomorrow, Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 2 p.m.
