Selinsgrove Races Past Tunkhannock 11-1 in Section 3 Play
BEECH CREEK – District 13 champion Selinsgrove met Tunkhannock the District 15 champ in the first round of the 9-11 Section 3 tournament at Blain Kunes Memorial Park with Selinsgrove put on a 11-1 performance for the win in 5 innings that included an hour rain delay along the way.
Selinsgrove used a walk from Tucker Teats two Tunkhannock errors and a base hit from Owen Santiago to score 2 runs in the first inning to open up a 3-0 lead.
The Seals added another run in the second inning when they put together a string of 3 walks and a base hit from Andrew Gephart.
In the third inning Tunkhannock responded in kind with a pair of walks and a single from Andrew Roxby for their only score of the game.
Selinsgrove got rolling again in the fourth inning when Teats and Mark Pastore put up back-to-back singles then Gephart went yard to clear the bases. The Seals weren’t done yet as Santiago slammed out his first-ever Little League home run of his career to give Selinsgrove a 8-1 lead. Tyler Ruhl also had a base hit in the fourth inning.
Selinsgrove went on to score 3 more runs in the fifth inning on four walks and a base hit from Josh Domeracki to give the Seals the 11-1 advantage to end the game under the 10 run mercy rule.
Tunkhannock used David Zackus, Owen Stretch and Zak Kieser on the mound, they combined for 8 hits, 9 walks and struck out 3 batters.
Selinsgrove pitched the trio of Pastore, Domeracki, and Ben Gearhart. The Seals yielded just one hit, walked 5 batters while striking out 14.
Tunkhannock will drop into the lower bracket and face Pottsville at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow while Selinsgove will meet Keystone in the winner’s bracket final tomorrow at 5:30 p.m.
