Jr. Crickets Pound Out 14-3 Win over Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT – The Beech Creek Junior American Legion baseball team closed out their regular season effort with a 14-3 win over Williamsport. The win put the Jr. Crickets record to 17-2 for the season.

With a 2-1 advantage after one inning, the Jr. Crickets held a narrow 2-1 lead. Then Beech Creek slowly pulled away from Williamsport by scoring another 5 runs in the second inning followed by 3 more runs in the third inning to hold a 10-1 lead.

Williamsport scored another run in the fifth inning and Beech Creek responded with another run of their own in the sixth. The Jr Crickets added 3 more runs to close out their scoring with 3 more runs in the seventh inning while Williamsport added a run of their own for the 14-3 final.

Leading the way offensively were Ross Glossner with a pair of base hits and a double while Rocco Stark and Trevor Adair each had a pair of singles to their credit. Tom Pringle had a double and a base hit with Caleb Shade, Jake Sweitzer, Aiden Major, Evan Conklin, Colin Bauman and Trey Gentzel all contributed base hits for the Jr. Crickets.

On the mound, Beech Creek dominated Williamsport with Zane Probst going 3 innings with2 walks, allowing 1 hit, striking out 4 Williamsport batters. Chase Peyton came on in relief to close out the final 4 innings earning 8 strikeouts, giving up 2 walks and 3 hits.

With the win, Beech Creek is the No. 1 seed for the district playoffs and will play No. 4 seed Jersey Shore on Monday, July 10, 2017 in Beech Creek at 5:30 p.m. Meanwhile, No. 2 seed, Williamsport will face No. 3 seed, State College.
