Six Wildcats Receive PHAC All-Star Honors

cm-baseballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference has released their all-star selections for the 2017 baseball season. The Wildcats have six players who were honored, five first team and one second team selection.

First team selections were: Austyn Carson, infield; Landon Breon, infield; Ethan Watkins, pitcher; Brandon Miller, outfield and Asher Corl, catcher. Trevor Hanna received second team honors as an infielder.

Austyn Carson, a junior shortstop, played in 21 games batting .360 with 27 hits including 4 doubles and 18 RBI. Carson was also 6-6 for stolen bases and held a .894 fielding percentage.

Senior, Landon Breon battled back from a shoulder injury this season yet played in 20 games for CM. Breon batted .364 with 16 hits including 2 doubles and 6 RBI and an outstanding .988 fielding percentage on defense. Breon also picked up 2 wins and one save on the mound in 2017 with a 2.00 ERA.

Senior, Ethan Watkins was the premier hurler for the Wildcats this season going 3-3 on the mound with a 1.40 ERA in 17 game appearances. Watkins saw limited duty in the batter’s box, but when he did he pounded out a 2 RB1 single. Watkins also saw duty at first base on defense and had an overall .983 fielding percentage for 2017.

Brandon Miller, also a senior, produced a .338 batting average, pounding out 24 hits, 12 RBI including 10 doubles and a triple in 21 games in 2017. Miller was 13-15 for stolen bases and a steady .975 fielding percentage on defense.

Asher Corl spend his junior season anchoring the Central Mountain defense behind the plate with a .987 fielding percentage for all 21 games. Corl was also making solid contributions on offense batting .443 with 31 hits, 20 RBI including 3 doubles.

Trevor Hanna, another Wildcat junior, hitting .309 for 17 hits, 8 RBI including one double in 20 games on the season. Hanna also had two appearance on the mound going 1-1 with a 4.47 ERA and earned a .964 fielding percentage on defense.

Central Mountain also earned a share of the PHAC Division I conference title finishing in a 8-2 tie with Jersey Shore. The rivals also split their face-to-face meetings in 2017. The Wildcats dispatched the Bulldogs 8-3 on April 5 at Mill Hall, then ‘Shore returned the favor in like fashion 8-3 when the ‘Cats traveled to Jersey Shore on April 26.

Jersey Shore also received several PHAC all-star accolades with fist team selection for Brandon Depasqua, infield and a double nod for Timmy Saar at outfield and pitcher. Earning second team all-star recognition were: Dylan Young, outfield; Koby Peacock, outfield; Calvin Lesser, pitcher; Lance Welsh, DH/utility. ‘Shore’s first year head coach, Mike English also received coach of the year honors.
