Wildcats fall to Seals 7-6 in 8 Innings

cm-baseballSELINSGROVE – Central Mountain (0-3, 0-1) came up on the short end of a 7-6 8-inning, road loss to Selinsgrove.

The Seals opened up a 1-0 lead after one inning with the Wildcats answering back with a run of their own in the second frame to knot the score at 1-1 after two innings.

Selinsgrove tacked on another run in the third inning while holding CM scoreless to hold a slim 2-1 lead heading into the fourth inning.

CM struggled at the plate once again and were unable to score, though the Seals would score three more runs in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead to 5-1.

Then the ‘Cats finally found their stride in the top of the fifth inning responding with 4 runs of their own and held the Seals in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 5-5.

Both teams padded their totals with an additional run in the sixth inning and held each other scoreless in the seventh, tied 6-6 at the end of regulation play.

In the top of the eighth inning, Landon Breon started off with a single followed by a sacrifice bunt by Zach Eck, though the ‘Cats were unable to score.

Selinsgrove responded in kind with a runner reaching base on an infield error, advancing to second on a wild pitch, then on to third base on a sacrifice bunt and was able to score on another wild pitch to end the game.

Offensively, the Wildcats had 12 its on the day Including three base hits each from Mahlik Houtz and Trevor Hanna, with Brandon Miller and Landon Breon each putting up a double and a base hit, Austyn Carson also had a double while Asher Corl had a single for CM.

Trevor hana started the game on the mound going 6 1/3 innings and was relived by Tanner Spangler who closed out the game for the Wildcats.

Next up for the Wildcats is a home game with rival Jersey Shore on Wednesday, April 5, 2017.
