Words of Grace – March 2

Jesus, the Son of God, was sent by his Father to be the Savior of the world.  “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” (John 3:17).

Why didn’t Jesus come into the world to condemn the world? The answer is that the world was already under condemnation because of sin.

The Lord Jesus was sent to take away the condemnation.  “He that believeth on him is not condemned:  but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (v.18).

Unbelievers remain under condemnation because, as the next verse says, light has come into the world, but “men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. “The light that came into the world was Jesus, “the Light of the world.”

It is no wonder that Jesus was hated by the world, and continues to be hated today. “For everyone that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved” (v.20).

But everyone who comes to the light, the Lord Jesus himself, trusting in him as the Savior, is no longer condemned. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).
