Wildcats Subdue Bulldogs, 56-13

cm-wrestlingJERSEY SHORE — After Central Mountain’s three grueling days at the PIAA team duals, wrestling fans might have expected the Wildcats to be flat in their return to regular season dual meet action at Jersey Shore Tuesday night.

There was no let-down, however, the Wildcats dominating from the first whistle on, rolling to a 56-13 win over the rebuilding Bulldogs. Central Mountain took 11 of the 14 bouts, moving to 17-2 on the season, ‘Shore falling to 6-13 with the loss. The Wildcats piled up three falls, three bout terminations, two major decisions, one regular decision and two forfeits; they amassed a 29-9 edge in takedowns.

The match started at 285 pounds and Richie Thompson (27-9) picked up a first period fall for his team-leading 17 pins. Johnny Shreffler (20-14) received a forfeit and Geo Barzona (29-2) followed with a 19-4 second period bout termination, the ‘Cats off and running.

Dalton Bechdel (10-6) earned a 6-3 decision at 120 and Seth Andrus moved to 25-8 with a second period pin at 126. The score was 26-4 Central Mountain heading into 138 pounds where Logan Long (20-11) earned a 19-3 bout termination. It was another technical fall at 145 from Colton Weaver (17-15) by a 21-5 score.

Asher Corl (20-11) notched a forfeit at 152 and Tanner Weaver (28-6) followed with a third period pin. Caleb Turner (26-7) scored a 10-2 major, the team score 52-10 the Wildcats with two bouts to go.

The final two bouts were rematches from December tourney action; the Bulldogs had won both of those, but the two weights were split Tuesday. Tanner Riggle (14-10) had lost to ‘Shore’s Logan Huling earlier in the year, but avenged the loss by a 15-7 major. The Bulldogs’ Max Mason (21-5) had pinned the Wildcats’ Mahlik Houtz (22-12) in December; this time Mason settled for a 7-4 win.

Central Mountain will have its final dual Thursday night, a Senior Night home encounter with Hollidaysburg (4-7). A junior high meet preceded the varsity contest with Jersey Shore, Central Mountain earning a 75-18 victory.
