Wildcats Grapplers Down Shik, 53-10
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP — Central Mountain has been part of the Heartland Conference for two and a half years and one given so far is the wrestling team’s total domination of Wildcat conference foes.
Shikellamy came to the Wildcat gym Thursday night with a 3-1 mark but left at 3-2 after a 53-10 trouncing administered by the 4-0 Wildcats. Central Mountain has yet to lose to a conference foe in its time in the Heartland. The Braves weren’t helped by the absence of a couple key performers, part of three forfeits awarded Central Mountain.
Central Mountain would take 11 of the 14 bouts, picking up three falls along the way: Johnny Shreffler (12-9) at 106 pounds, Geo Barzona (16-1) at 120 and Asher Corl (9-7) at 152. Tanner Weaver (15-5) piled up a 16-0 second period technical fall at 170 pounds. Regular decisions were earned by Seth Andrus (14-4), a 9-2 winner over John Supsic (10-5), one of Shik’s better wrestlers, at 126 pounds; Logan Long (9-6) at 138 pounds; Colton Weaver (11-8) at 145 pounds; and Caleb Turner (12-6) up a weight for the match at 195 pounds.
Three ‘Cats received the forfeits: Brian Andrus (1-0) in his debut at 182 pounds, Mahlik Houtz (14-6) at 220 and Richie Thompson (17-5) at heavyweight.
The Wildcats are off until next Tuesday when a struggling Shamokin team comes to Central Mountain. Competition will get tougher next Saturday, Jan. 21 at the 16-team Clearfield Duals.
The undefeated (8-0) Wildcat junior high team downed their Shikellamy counterparts by a 56-34 score.
