Hanna Begins 14th Term in State House; Retains Minority Whip Slot

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, was sworn in today to his 14th term in the House of Representatives, where he will continue to serve as Democratic Whip, second in command in the House Democratic Caucus.

“I’m looking forward to working with Democrats, Republicans and Governor Tom Wolf to move Pennsylvania forward in a bipartisan manner,” Hanna said. “I am also proud to welcome 23 new members to the House of Representatives.”
Hanna’s colleagues elected him to a fourth two-year term as Democratic whip in November. As whip, he assists party leaders in coordinating the caucus in its responses to critical legislation and other matters.
“I will continue seeking common-sense solutions to issues affecting the 76th Legislative District and all of Pennsylvania,” said Hanna, who said he will be focusing on sound fiscal policies, retirement security, family-friendly policies including paid leave, affordable early education and child care as well as equal pay and workplace fairness for women, those with disabilities and others, as the General Assembly’s two-year session evolves.
“Everyone is geared towards ensuring we pass a sustainable, balanced, on-time budget,” said Hanna, after participating in the swearing-in ceremony at the state Capitol that marked the start of the 2017-18 legislative session. “It’s imperative that members on both sides of the aisle compromise and work together in the interest of all Pennsylvanians.”
Hanna has served in the state legislature since 1991. He is a graduate of Lock Haven High School, Lock Haven University and earned his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
He serves on the board of governors for the 14-school State System of Higher Education, and is a past member of the board of directors of the Center for Rural Pennsylvania.
Hanna previously served as chairman of the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee and also has served on the House Game and Fisheries Committee.
The House of Representatives will now include 40 women in the 2017-18 session, the highest number in state history.
