HARRISBURG – Shoemaker Road in Wayne Township is getting a needed renovation thanks to $1.225 million in state grant funding and supported by state Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, released from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Multimodal Transportation Fund program.

Hanna announced the state grant today and said the township will use the funds to reconstruct and widen Shoemaker Road. The existing road serves two commercial parks, but is currently posted as a 10-ton limit due to the lack of roadway base and narrowness.

“This improvement will better serve the commercial parks by making it more accessible and conducive for traffic, specifically truck traffic,” Hanna said. “This infrastructure improvement project is going to help drive our local economy.”

Multimodal Transportation Funds require a local match of at least 30 percent of the amount awarded.

“My thanks to Representative Hanna for his leadership and work helping us to advance this project, which will remove a weight limit barrier on a key connector for companies in Clinton County,” said PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards. “We share the goal of using taxpayers’ resources wisely to build the state and region’s economy and deliver transportation that helps our communities thrive and prosper.”

Hanna said he was happy to work with PennDOT to see hard-earned taxpayer funding be reinvested back into the community.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Multimodal Transportation Fund, which investments money from Act 89 of 2013, the commonwealth’s transportation plan, provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to Pennsylvania residents. Funds can be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
