Keystone Teams Honored at Start of Labor Day Regatta
LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven Area Jaycees Labor Day Regatta received its official start this morning with a tribute to the multiple banner-winning Keystone Little League teams.
The 46th Annual Labor Day Regatta began its three day run under perfect weather conditions and recognition for the accomplishments of four Keystone teams: the 12 year old group took the Pennsylvania title and was Mid-Atlantic Region runner-up to eventual World Series champion Endwell, NY; the 13 year old Intermediate team won a state title and finished as Mid-Atlantic runner-up; the 11 year old team finished second in the state; and the 10 year old team finished fourth in the state. The 10 year old team was not present, reported competing in a tournament this weekend.
The Clinton County Commissioners presented the teams with a county proclamation lauding the squads for their achievements. Board chairman Pete Smeltz then led the crowd in a “We Are..Keystone” cheer.
The Regatta’s first-ever grand marshal, Zak Taylor, was unable to attend the opening ceremony. Program emcee Mike Flanagan said it is hoped Taylor, 8, can be present on Sunday. The youth is going through cancer treatments and Flanagan said fundraising canisters on his behalf have been placed through the Regatta midway on E. Water Street. Local singer Autumn Dauberman opened the event with the National Anthem.
The Regatta should see pleasant weather through its three-day run ending Monday night. All three days will feature boat racing on the river, carnival-related activities, live music and a craft fair in Canal Park. The Monday calendar features a 6 p.m. appearance from a notable Maryland-based 80’s rock group, The Reagan Years.
