CM Students Attend FFA State Convention

kcsd-logoBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – On June 14-16 five students for the agriculture department at Keystone Central School District Career and Technology Education Center attended the 87th annual Pennsylvania FFA State Convention.

During the week long convention the students representing Central Mountain FFA competed against students from all over the state of Pennsylvania in tractor driving and Agriculture Mechanics. Tractor driving requires the competitors to drive both a four wheel wagon and two wheel cart through an obstacle course and back into a stall Agriculture Technology & Mechanical Systems tests both technical and agricultural mechanics skills and your ability to work in a team while solving problems.

During the event, members complete a written exam, demonstrate problem-solving and hands-on performance skills. At the end of three days of competition against 13 teams and 56 individuals The team of John Simcox, Heath Wertz, Brock Knarr, and Connor Tolmay, placed second as a team in Agriculture Mechanics and won a chance to compete at the eastern states exposition in September.

As individuals Simcox placed fourth, Wertz seventh, Knarr 13th and Tolomay 16th. For tractor driving this was the third round of competition starting with 64 drivers and ending with thirteen of which Aaron Fausey from Central Mountain FFA placed fourth.
