14-8 Lady Bucks Rome-Bound Saturday

Bucktail Visits NE Bradford in D4 Playoffs

by Jim Morgan

bucks-basketballFARWELL – Things have changed for the Lady Bucks (14-8) but we do know Bucktail is playoff bound!

Last week I mentioned the Lady Bucks would be playing on Wednesday. District IV has changed the schedule. This Saturday afternoon the Lady Bucks No. 6 seed will travel to Northeast Bradford No. 3 seed for a Class A quarter-final game, starting at 1:00 PM. Winner will advance to the semi-finals against the winner of Mansfield / East Juniata. Time and location will not be known until after all the quarter-finals are played.

Last Friday night Galeton needed to win over the Bucks to make the play-offs. Bucktail on the other hand was looking for revenge from the first game of the season as Galeton won 48-42. This time with Bucktail having the same nine point lead at halftime, the Lady Bucks were not going to let Galeton close at all as the Lady Bucks won 61-33.

Every Lady Buck had a piece of the victory as Hannah Shearer had another double-double on the night with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Cheyanne Casper had a new career high of 17 points. Tiffany Werts finished up with 8 points and 17 rebounds. Maria Morgan had 19 points and 13 assists for her double-double.

“Our big girls did a great job underneath,” coach Carl Gentzyel said. “Now I hope we can carry that momentum into the play-offs.”

The defense picked-up after the first quarter and just shut the Tigers of Galeton down as the Lady Bucks led 14-10 to start the second quarter. Casper hit two three’s in a row to spark the Lady Bucks in the quarter as the Lady Bucks lead 25-16 at halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Bucks never looked back as they outscored the Tiger 36-17 in the half.

In the JV game, it was a battle to the end as the Lady Bucks lost 28-25 to Galeton. High scorer for the Lady Bucks was Allison Schenck with 8 points.

Last Wednesday the Lady Bucks tried taking down undefeated No. 1 seed Millville. After the first quarter things were looking good as Millville led 20-15. With the absence of Alaina Tripp this game due to illness, the young Lady Bucks on the bench were no match for the Bower sisters of Millville. The Bucktail bench is very young, and to ask them to match up with players like the Bower sisters, that was not going to hold up each quarter as Millville increased the lead at halftime to 46-25.

Tiffany Werts finished up with 11 points, as Maria Morgan finished up with 21 points. For Millville, Bower sisters Madi and Maci combined for 72 of the total 85 points, Millville winning 85-52.

There was no JV game played at Millville.
