Keystone 8-10s Roll Again at Sectionals

key-base-logoBEECH CREEK — The Keystone 8-10 team continued its run through the postseason, this evening piling up a 14-3 victory over Selinsgrove, the win advancing the host team to Thursday’s championship game.

Keystone plated two runs in the top of the first but looked a bit out of sync in the bottom of the inning as Selinsgrove used a couple walks, a couple errors and a single to plate unearned three runs and take their first and only lead at 3-2.

Keystone would score in every inning from that point on, meanwhile shutting down the visitors on just one more hit. For the evening Keystone pounded out 16 hits, led by Braylen Corter’s 4-for-4 showing including a homerun. Levi Schlesinger continued his hot postseason, going 3-for-4 with a sacrifice fly and two RBIs. For the playoffs Schlesinger is hitting .750. He also earned the win with 3 1/3 innings of no-hit relief, striking out five.

Gavin Burnell added two singles and an RBI, Elek Fravel 3-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in. Gabe Johnson added a single and double and an RBI, Kevin Grenninger with a single and Zane Cooper with a single and two runs batted in.

Johnson, Schlesinger and Corter combined for the six inning 2-hitter, all three Selinsgrove runs unearned.

Keystone will now wait until Thursday for the winner of the consolation round. The title game is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Blaine Kunes Memorial Park. Keystone is defending Section 3 champion. The winner will go to the state tournament in Bradford starting Tuesday, June 26.
