Woolrich 8-10 Battle Montoursville in 13-3 Loss

wool-base-logoBALLS MILLS – The Woolrich 8-10 All-Stars ended their District 12 season with a 13-3 loss to Montoursville in a four inning loser’s bracket contest at the Hepburn field.

Woolrich struggled on both sides of the ball but kept the game close for the first two innings only trailing 3-1 going into the third stanza.

Woolrich scored their first run with some aggressive base running by Owen Wunder who reached first on a walk and advanced around the diamond on a wild pitch, a Montoursville error and a passed ball in the first inning.

Mason Zell git the start on the mound for the Woolies and hit a rough patch in the top of the third and was relieved by Gavin Bower who made hit Little League pitching debut with no outs and bases loaded, Bower shoed no sign of worry and threw hard.

In that third inning, Montoursville took advantage of the rookie pitcher by bunching up three hits and three walks to plate 5 more runs to take a 8-1 lead.

Woolrich mounted a rally in the bottom of the third inning to keep the game within reach.

With two outs on the board, Ben Temple got a walk and advanced to second on base hit from Gavin Bowers then Temple advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on another base hit from Andrew Brown. Bower, meanwhile advanced to third on Brown’s hit and caught the Montour defense off their guard and scored the second run of the inning. The scores closed the Montoursville margin to 8-3.

In the fourth inning, the fortunes of Woolrich were not improving defensively, so another pitching change was mad to bring in Owen Wunder to the mound. Wunder, too faced a daunting task with runners on base and once again, Montour took advantage by scoring 5 more runs to secure a 10-run advantage going into the bottom of the fourth.

Then Montoursville continued their strong defense in the bottom of the fourth by retiring Woolrich in order to end the game after four full innings.
