LOCK HAVEN – Shortly before 8 a.m., City and area firefighters were called to the 200 block of north Henderson Street for a structure fire.

Flames were evident on the first and second floors as well as billowing smoke coming from the structure at 224 N. Henderson.

All three Lock Haven fire companies were on scene and supported by crews from Mill Hall and Dunnstown. Firefighters knocked down the fire in short order.

Lock Haven EMS also responded to the call. Fortunately, the only victim that required their attention was a feline pet rescued from the dwelling. Though a bit dirty from some soot, the cat seemed rather calm for the experience.

UPDATE – City fire chief Bob Neff said the fire broke out just before 8 a.m. in the living room of a first floor apartment occupied by Douglas Butler. Neff said the flames severely damaged the first floor and caused moderate damage to a second floor apartment occupied by two couples. All were able to escape the fire.

Building owner Allen Feerrar surveyed the damage and said the two-story brick building will likely be repaired. A state police fire marshal was on scene to determine a cause.

Chief Neff lauded the work of volunteer firemen. Crews from Lock Haven, Mill Hall, Dunnstown and Lock Haven EMS responded while Flemington and Avis firemen were on standby.
