Josh Winkelman Termed “Armed and Dangerous”

RENOVO — A new development tonight in the case of a missing Renovo couple: with Tony Sporny now in custody and Josh Winkelman still at large, state police have charged another borough man with aiding the fugitives.

Trooper Andrew Mincer said in a report tonight that Bobby Joe Winkelman, 34, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of hindering apprehension or prosecution. He was taken to the Clinton County Correctional Facility for booking.

Meanwhile the police report labeled Josh Winkelman “armed and dangerous” and “invited” him to turn himself in. Josh Winkelman is wanted in connection with the armed robbery at Renovo’s Santander Bank last October. He has been sought by police since May 2, the date a vice detail broke into the Winkelman/Sporny residence at 164 5th St. in Renovo and found no one there.

Police again encouraged anyone with information on Josh Winkelman’s whereabouts to contact them. Their statement said: “The state police are prepared to take Josh Winkelman into custody without incident in order to ensure the safety of all parties. As such Winkelman is invited to turn himself in voluntarily, peacefully, at any time. Anyone found to be aiding Winkelman, or any other known fugitive, is subject to criminal prosecution.”

Today’s arrest follows yesterday’s arrest of Sporny, Josh Winkelman’s companion, wanted for allegedly selling drugs in the Renovo area.

Sporny was taken into custody at their 5th St. home, two and a half weeks after Sporny and Josh Winkleman were able to elude an early morning police raid at their residence. Trooper Mincer said state police had received reports that Sporny had been seen in the Renovo area. Mincer and fellow trooper John Knepp responded and said Sporny was taken into custody at her residence “without further incident.”
