Garbrick Earns His Second No-No of the Season

cm-baseballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – It was another workman like performance as Central Mountain (16-1) defeated Heartland Conference foe, Shikellamy 10-0 in five innings.

The game was bookended by Alex Garbricks command on the mound for his second no-hit effort of the season and a near flawless defense behind him. Garbrick collected six strikeouts while giving up only two walks on the night.

“Alex Garbrick’s second ho-hitter of the season right there,” said CM head coach Mike Kramer of his veteran pitcher, “He pitched out of a jam following an error and a walk. He bared down and went right at them coming out with the win and the no-hitter. He would be the first to compliment his defense for their effort. Our pitchers have confidence in the guys behind them so they can throw pitches right in there for strikes.”

Offensively, it was more of the same … patient and steady focus in the batter’s box by the Wildcats taking advantage of what opposing pitchers are offering them.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first then it took a couple of innings to get their offense back in stride, scoring 5 more runs in the fourth inning followed by two more runs in the fifth to end the game.

“These guys came out and did what we had to do today, ” said Kramer of the Wildcat offense, “We scored three runs early and caught the momentum, then it took us a couple of innings until we came alive again. But when we did come alive, we were hitting the ball up and down the lineup,” added Kramer.

Toner Corl had a pair of singles for the ‘Cats including the final hit that drove across the game-ending tenth run. Colin Treaster also had a pair of base hits while Talon Falls contributed a single and a triple on the night. Conner Bauman, Cole Reeder and Asher Corl all had a base hit for the Wildcats as well.

Brandon Miller working hard on both sides of the ball reached base on two walks in the game, eventually scoring both times with an exciting steal of home plate, narrowly beating the tag on his second trip to score. Defensively Miller also made a superb diving catch to end the fourth inning. Garbrick also successfully stole second base in the game to bring his season total to 13.

Next up the Wildcats host the Little Lions of State College Friday, May 13, 2016.
