LOCK HAVEN — A Clinton County Court jury this evening returned a guilty verdict in the case of a Lock Haven man charged with attempted homicide in the shooting of a housemate on West Main St. in December of 2014.

Charles “Chuck” Shaffer Jr., 53, had been arrested by Lock Haven police a week after the shooting; police alleged Shaffer fired a shotgun, striking Casey Farley in the abdomen during the course of an argument. Shaffer claimed during the course of the three-day trial that he was acting in self defense, that Farley had come after him over the theft of some pills.

The jury deliberated for some six hours before returning about 6 p.m. with a guilty verdict on all counts other than one of terroristic threats. Presiding Judge Michael Salisbury set June 13 for sentencing. Shaffer was represented by Centre County attorney Marc Decker, the case prosecuted by District Attorney Dave Strouse.
