LOCK HAVEN – Lock Haven University on Tuesday will celebrate the largest philanthropic gift in both institutional and the Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) history from an individual donor.

The university had announced in December that local entrepreneur Stephen P. Poorman and his wife Pamela A. Fisher-Poorman had agreed to a cash and property donation, which includes an irrevocable residual estate pledge, donation of property and a cash pledge all totaling $7.1 million dollars.

The donation will be marked on Tuesday with an open house, gift recognition and dedication ceremony. The events will begin in Rogers Gym at 2 p.m. The adjacent Akeley Building now carries signage which reads “Stephen Poorman College of Business, Information Systems, and Human Services.”

The Poorman gift includes support of the Poorman Student Investment Fund, which will assist in teaching students about real-time investments. In addition, the university said, Mr. and Mrs. Poorman have pledged funds for a Scholar-In-Residence program, funds for increased education in entrepreneurial studies and building upgrades for the business program.
