Wildcats Triumphant over State 42-16
CM Still perfect at 9-0
STATE COLLEGE—The Central Mountain wrestling team put the cap on a 7-0 dual meet January with today’s 42-16 win at State College. The victory put the Wildcats at 9-0 overall and the loss dropped State College to 7-15.
The win was workmanlike for Central Mountain, held to just one pin on the day by a State team that stayed aggressive throughout. But Wildcat balance was a key, CM taking 10 of the 14 bouts, including the lone ‘Cat fall from Brandon Miller (12-9), plus majors from Colton Weaver (19-6), Greg Stahl (6-7) and Hunter Weaver (21-3).
Regular decisions were earned by Geo Barzona (20-2), Josh Marr (2-2), Tanner Weaver (16-10) and Issac Porter (18-4).
Porter’s win was a 6-4 overtime victory over State’s Cory Debreibelbis (20-3) at 195 pounds, the first of three much anticipated final bouts in the dual that started at 106. The others saw Hunter Weaver’s 11-3 verdict over State’s Pete Haffner (15-3) at 220 pounds and, at heavyweight, State’s Jack Vandevort (14-2) scored a last second takedown to edge Bryce Bitner (17-9) by a 5-4 score.
Wildcats receiving forfeit wins were Cody Coleman (9-7) and Seth Andrus (15-8).
Central Mountain had a 26-6 edge in takedowns. The junior high team also came home a winner by a 46-34 score.
The Wildcats are off until Tuesday, a match at Selinsgrove. That will prove to be a final tune-up for the District 6 team dual tournament next Saturday morning Feb. 6 at Tyrone High School. Central Mountain is the number one seed and will meet number four seed Philipsburg-Osceola in one semifinal, number two seed Mifflin County meeting three seed Bellefonte in the other. The 10 a.m. winners will then meet for the district team dual title, the champion advancing to the PIAA team duals beginning Thursday, Feb. 11 at the Giant Center in Hershey. Mifflin County is the defending district team dual champion, edging Central Mountain by a point a year ago.
