For The Record – Jan. 9, 2014

by Barb Mastriania

Who is it who said be careful what you wish for. You just might get it. I’m wondering if that thought is crossing Mayor Carl Olshefskie’s mind these days.

Rumors have it …

FaceBook rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but the word is that Renovo’s new mayor, Carl Olshefskie is shaking things up in the Renovo Police Department. Rumors abound that the police department is being cut in half, that vehicle road use is being restricted and that the police officers are not happy about it.

The heat is on …

It’s been below zero and below freezing temperatures outside, but Rumor has it things are heating up inside Renovo borough politics. Rumor has it that there were two meetings in Renovo Monday night. One was the annual borough council reorganization meeting that’s required by law. The second according to rumor, not a clue if it’s true, but supposedly there was to be another meeting at Yesterdays with people unhappy about what Mayor Olshefskie was or was not doing. The talk is there was talk of ousting the mayor before his term begins. There’s no doubt the rumors are rampant. When he left the council meeting, rumor had it that Olshefskie, tongue in cheek, said he was heading to the other meeting to see if he had been ousted.

The mayor’s response …

FaceBook rumors regarding Renovo’s new mayor and the borough police department were rampant enough to get Mayor Olshefskie’s attention. At the start of Monday night’s Renovo council reorganization he read the following statement:

“Some of you may know me, a couple o you do know me and apparently a greater number of you think you know me. After taking my oath of office I started to serve as mayor with fidelity as the oath states.

“All of the internet lawyers seem to think they know what the position entails, not. And the people who should know don’t know and think they can do a better job.

“Unlike prior borough administrations I do believe some of the council members do want to handle their offices with fidelity . . .

“Most of the financial woes that the borough now faces were brought about by the lack of interest by our electorate to serve as their oath stated. They face a “job” that most homemakers, secretaries, nurses, factory workers and others did not have the training or experience to perform.

“Many term have been flying about cyber space, impeachment, ousted, conflict of interest.”

And so it goes …

When I left my house at 6:38 P.M. Monday evening for Renovo my car said it was 12 degrees outside. When I left borough hall an hour later the temperature was down to six degrees. But a warming trend is coming back. Inside borough hall and outside.

The Follies …

Rumor has it that a Renovo native who is now a Florida resident has had thoughts

Of reviving a drum summit for the 2014 Flaming Foliage Follies.

Downton Abbey is back …

The fourth season of Downton Abbey has begun. Hooray!
